ARC provides support to over 250 children & adults with disabilities, offering a continuum of services specific to the needs & desires of the population served. Clients are proportionately represented among all racial, ethnic & socioeconomic groups in Martin County. Funds will support the Alternative Behavioral Learning Environment (ABLE) program which focuses on increasing social, communication, academic & employment skills of disabled adults.
Autism Project of Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, FL
Project Life Saver, $10,000
The program is designed to protect individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ADS), Alzheimer's disease & related disorders. It uses tracking technology to locate missing individuals. The individual can be located by via a transmitter worn on his/her wrist and tracking technology in a law enforcement vehicle or helicopter.
Big Heart Brigade of the Treasure Coast, Palm City, FL
16th Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner Event, $5,000
The organization serves the community through fundraisers, toy drives, supporting the Firefighter Olympics and volunteering for the Arts Council and Project Graduation. The largest event is the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Event which has provided thousands of turkey dinners to the elderly, unemployed, and victims of natural disasters. Grant funds will be used to purchase cooking utensils and food in Martin and St. Lucie Counties.
Carelink International Inc, Jupiter, Florida
Electronic Medical Records (EMR), $10,000
This clinic is open 5-6 days a week and serves over 3,000 patients annually. The clinic provides healthcare services, assesses patient needs, provides referrals and offers health programs to the underserved. The Electronic Medical Record System, which Carelink International will purchase with grant funds, will be used jointly with the Community Healthcare Clinic. This will enable the two clinics to share records, manage patients more efficiently and bring the clinic into compliance with requirements that will be implemented in 2010 for all medical facilities.

Birthline/Lifeline Pregnancy Centers, $10,000
Grant funds will be used to purchase baby cribs for clients who are economically poor and can not afford to purchase a crib.
Women who come to the Birthline/Lifeline Pregnancy Centers in the first trimester of pregnancy are being targeted. The Center maintains names on a crib list and when the baby is due the Center will provide a crib for them.
Catholic Charities-Diocese of Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Interfaith Health and Wellness Association (IFHWA) Faith Community Nurse Basic Preparation, $4,500
IFHWA is a program of Catholic Charities committed to the support & education of registered nurses who serve their churches & communities by promoting health & wellness through care of the body, mind & spirit. Each year the program provides week long training for nurses. Grant funds will support the program's infrastructure (capacity) to allow more community nurses to attend the training.

Frozen, Weekend Meals on Wheels, $5,000
The Meals on Wheels program provides hot lunchtime meals every weekday and is funded by the government. The government, however, does not fund weekend meals. Grant funds will used to purchase frozen weekend meals for one year providing two nutritional frozen meals (1 for Saturday and 1 for Sunday) to 8 senior citizens who are facing economic problems.

The Haitian Healthcare Initiative is designed to increase the number of individuals in the Haitian community who access health care. This is accomplished by providing education of basic health issues and encouraging preventative healthcare. Monthly presentations in Haitian Creole include the following topics: diabetes, hypertension, pregnancy, and breast cancer. The organization is run by volunteers including three board members who work within the Lake Worth communities through Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
People Engaged in Active Community Efforts (PEACE) Lake Worth, FL
Listening Process & Community Problems Assembly 2008, $10,000
PEACE is a congregation-based organization that builds consensus & strengthens the capacity of congregations who advocate & address injustices affecting marginalized communities. Currently, PEACE is focusing on healthcare access for the uninsured & affordable housing. Grant funds will be used for community mobilization and advocacy around the concern for healthcare coverage for the county’s uninsured residents. PEACE uses grassroots activities to engage citizens in advocacy to improve access to healthcare.
True Fast Outreach Ministries West Palm Beach, FL
Sapodilla Community Outreach, $10,000
True Fast Ministries is a community, faith-based help center providing a range of health & human services in the heart of a blighted West Palm Beach community. Grant funds will support the prescription assistance/benefits program & Rapid Response AIDS testing. In a partnership with Comprehensive Aids Program (CAP), community members can be tested & learn their health status in the same visit; if the test is positive individuals are referred to CAP for ongoing services to manage the disease. Clients are also screened into an internet based prescription assistance/benefits program to assist with medication needs.
Village Baptist Church West Palm Beach, FL
Feed the Hungry, $10,000
Grant funds will be used to purchase meat, canned vegetables, pasta and rice for the food boxes that are given to families in need. Volunteers prepare 50 pound boxes of food that cost the church about $6-$8. Volunteers also screen applicants and deliver food. The organization also works with 40+ smaller churches primarily in the Haitian and Hispanic communities.
Volunteers in Medicine (VOM) Stuart, FL
Diabetes Program, $6,500
VOM is a community health center that provides primary medical care to uninsured residents of Martin County. A community of medical professional volunteers provide health services to a diverse population. Labs, diagnostics, and specialty care are provided free at no cost. Grant funds will be used to purchase meters & strips to gauge blood sugar levels as well as insulin & other drugs. VOM is developing partnerships with pharmaceutical companies & medical suppliers to secure these items.
