St. Francis of Assisi adopted the Tau symbol as his signature of “God Bless You.” For St. Francis, the Tau was a loving symbol of God’s intense relationship of love, summarizing the mystery of faith. 

St. Francis had the symbol carved on the walls of his cell as the sign of genuine hope and faith in God’s faithfulness.

Allegany Franciscan Ministries uses this symbol in recognition of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany.

The circle and open ends of the Tau are emblems of inclusiveness.

The green background and vine represent growth of the environment and humankind toward the light of God’s love. 

The encircling rope reminds us of St. Francis and the love that binds us all.
